Turnbull Cove
We left Sullivan Bay around 7:30AM to get to Turnbull before Brian’s meetings at 9:00. Boy, was it foggy!!
Soon after we set our anchor, the sun pushed through and it became a beautiful morning.
On my way to bring Maui to shore a woman on another sailboat in the anchorage waved me over to their boat. She wanted to let me know that about an hour ago she saw a grizzly bear with a couple cubs on shore at the trailhead.
Yikes.
She noticed that I had an electric outboard on my dinghy and had a bunch of questions for me because she has been thinking about getting one. Of course I raved about our little electric outboard being honest about its limitations as well. They had guests on board that were from Maui so they thought it was really cool that our dog’s name was Maui. They were on their way to Sullivan Bay so I let them know that they just got a freight of groceries and they seemed really excited to have fresh produce.
I circled around in the dinghy trying to find a different spot to bring Maui to shore with no luck. So I beached the dinghy where they said the grizzlies were and was just very loud and fast.
I then proceeded to tell Willie and Barb that the other boat had seen grizzlies on shore. They suggested the three of us go for a hike in a couple hours together rather than separately. There’s a short steep hike at this Anchorage that leads to a large, beautiful lake with a dock and a picnic table. So together we did that hike.
