Ladysmith
First time here!
Brian’s grandma Laura, used to talk about Ladysmith all the time.
We’re anchored in a really… Sketch area. Haha. We’ll see if we stay. Either way. We’ve made it south of Dodd Narrows! The Gulf Islands area is kinda like we’re ‘back home.’ Even though we’ve never been here, it feels familiar.
We ended up anchoring 5 times in the span of 3 days. Haha. Not what we like to do, but… Just what we had to do.
On Saturday, our friends who we met a few months ago live here in Ladysmith. They invited us to join them for lunch, and then to ride in their zodiac back to their house for dinner.
The zodiac ride was so fun. We went 20 knots! Different pace from our typical 6.5 haha.
On Sunday morning, I decided to setup my fishing rod. So I watched some videos on how to tie on my leader line. And I connected my lure to my leader. And I put the lure in the water. I did it. I went fishing. Wooohooo. And I caught the elusive logfish. Hahaha. It was actually really good practice to have weight on the line that wasn’t a fish fighting me so I could practice figuring out the tension on the spool. I think I need to re-tie or try a different knot for the leader, now because it gets caught in the eyelets on the rod. So it’s also really great that I figured that out.
Maui was sick today. Didn’t eat her breakfast or any treats even. Poor girl. We need to do a better job at giving her medicine (Benadryl and Pepcid) EVERY day. To help her feel better until we get home.
On Sunday we went to a city makers market. It was fun. And then we went to Bayview Brewing after for another meal. It was so good the day before we wanted it again.
We got some more local art cards for our wedding thank you cards. We need to buy like… 45 and we’re up to… 30? Haha, so still need to buy 15 more, but we’ve been having fun doing it.
Sunday evening and night was quite eventful. Around 8:45 at night we happen to notice some smoke in the sky off in the distance beyond the head of the bay and saw an orange patch on the mountain. We identified it as a wildfire and Brian decided to call it in. He was one of the first people to call it in, But they were aware of it. He’s so good about remembering to call local authorities when he sees something or hears something, I often forget to do that but it can be so helpful to stop something before it spreads. Whether that’s a wildfire or somebody being an idiot doing something stupid in the street. Anyway, he spent the night watching the fire grow.
At 4:30 in the morning we awoke to a loud thud against the hull of the boat. We were worried that we had bumped into another boat in the Anchorage or something like that. What had happened was the log boom had moved South dramatically since we had anchored and the bow of our boat was in the middle of a log boom. It was very scary. Not really sure what to do about that.
Brian ended up letting out more anchor chain and that helped us get us away from the log boom a bit. And then as the morning progressed he got into the dinghy three separate times and used the dinghy like a little tugboat to push the logs away from yahara. Nature took care of the rest and the wind blew the log boom back to where it was by the time we needed to pull up the anchor.
