At 6:30 PM we got word that an earthquake happened near coast of Russia. At that time it was an 8.7 earthquake, which is the 8th strongest earthquake ever recorded.

The coast of British Columbia as well as the United States West Coast was all put under a tsunami watch. Soon after the watch was advanced to an advisory.

What the hell? Haha. We began preparing. For what? We weren’t quite sure. What is the procedure for dealing with a tsunami while you’re on a boat? It’s actually to go to deep water. The power from the wave can push you towards shore.

Around 7:00 the winds were picking up in the Anchorage and we watched our buddy boat, Irene, drag on their anchor. I think it took them three tries to reset their anchor. That’s hard to watch, especially when it’s your friends. Because it’s very frustrating. I’ve been in that position. It sucks.

Right now it’s 9:45PM and current predictions are that we will experience 1-2-ft wave around 11:30PM. To me, that seems very manageable and I’m not all that worried or concerned. I definitely won’t be able to sleep though until the wave has come and gone.

Just right now we got a VHF radio alert from Victoria Coast Guard that there is a gale wind warning in the Johnstone strait area which we are just north of. Jesus Christ.

I will update more later
