Fury Cove
Soon after we arrived to beautiful Fury Cove, Brian threw out his back.
We took Maui to shore to go potty and check out the unique shell beach. Brian was trying to move the dinghy up the beach further, and bam. He felt a popping feeling in his low back followed by sharp pain that continued through the day. This occasionally happens to Brian and it often takes him 1-2 weeks to recover. Damn!!
We got him back to the boat and into bed with some muscle relaxers, Tylenol and an ice pack.
I got to work preparing for the big week ahead.
With his back is out, it’ll be up to me to do almost everything. I spent the afternoon making a bunch of food to have meals for our upcoming passages, including grilling a salmon we got from our friend, Paul.
Tomorrow is a really big day for us. We are rounding Cape Caution. I will now be doing it entirely by myself. I’ve done a lot of our big passages either by myself or mostly by myself, so it’s not new.
Main priority is making sure Brian has the space and time to recover and heal, so I will do everything I can to help make that happen.
I can see he’s in so much pain, even moving a few feet, he’s struggling.
We talked about going to Port McNeil instead of the planned Allison Harbor. We are fortunate to be only 7 hours from medical care – Port McNeil has a small hospital. Brian has decided to continue on the plan. Going to Allison Harbour means if things get worse for him, it will still be a ~6 hour travel to port McNeil.
I’ve got my alarm set for 4:30am tomorrow for a 5:30 departure. Weather should be much better than when we crossed it going north. Fingers crossed.
I’m going to bed feeling confident. (Thank God haha)
