Day 5: Made it to San Juan Islands!
We made it to the San Juans! Grabbed a mooring ball at one of our favorite spots… Eagle harbor on Cypress Island. There are about 10 other boats in the anchorage.
Last night we anchored at Coupeville on Whidbey Island. That was such a cute little town.
We got Maui some warm, water resistant jackets (haha, she’s been getting cold already!) and Rachel got some earrings and a ring with an anchor imprinted at some cute little shops. Then we enjoyed some pizza and beer at a local restaurant.
We left this morning at 9am to hit Deception Pass at Slack tide @ 12:08
It was a good practice for timing out the crazier passes we’ll go through later. It was beautiful. It’s always fun going under a bridge in a boat, that you’ve previously gone over in a car.
Years ago when I walked across that bridge I literally thought to myself I wonder if I’ll ever go under this on a boat. Today was the day. :purple_heart: And we nailed it. I’m proud of us.
We anchored briefly in Bowman Bay just outside of Deception Pass to wait for the current to be in our favor, so we made lunch (which was those steamed clams Rachel got on day 1) and Brian took Maui to shore on the paddle board for a potty break.
Weather was nice today which was a refreshing change.
There is some decent wind predicted for this evening/ tonight through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. So hopefully we’ve picked a decently protected spot. :crossed_fingers:
